Apple's Next-Gen Modem Could Lead to Slimmer iPhones and Cellular MacBooks: Report
Apple is making major progress on an advanced in-house modem, codenamed Sinope, which could replace Qualcomm chips in future iPhones and reshape its product lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new modem promises improved power efficiency and a smaller design, potentially debuting in 2025.
The first device expected to feature Sinope is the iPhone SE, followed by a model known as D23—likely to become the thinnest iPhone yet. This innovation would not only create room for larger batteries and better cameras but could also lead to the development of foldable iPhones, marking Apple’s first move into this market segment.
Beyond smartphones, the new modem could also bring cellular connectivity to Apple’s MacBooks by 2026, enabling internet access without relying solely on Wi-Fi. Additionally, Sinope may make its way to entry-level iPads as early as next year, with Pro models expected to adopt this technology by 2026.
While Apple has no confirmed plans to integrate the new modem into its Apple Watch series, the move highlights Apple’s strategic vision to innovate across its ecosystem, enabling slimmer designs and better connectivity for a variety of devices.
